When you walk into a facility that provides care for the elderly, you are walking among people who could have been your teachers, your bankers, your insurance agents, your neighbors. When I am performing several times a week, it is all old hat, and perhaps I am not so aware of the joy. But in this performance today, I was just so incredibly happy to be right there playing for the 20 people who came to the performance.

This brand new marimba design was made for us by Tom Bourne of Bourne Marimbas. It is in the key of G and goes great with the Hugh Tracey Kalimbas. But even more important, it is built to last. Read this article to learn about the special features I find so appealing in this marimba.

When I first started Kalimba Magic, trying to get stores to take kalimbas was like pulling teeth. I would hear "They are basically coffee table ornaments, nobody will pay over $100 for one of them." Hey, just how big are these kalimbas? And how heavy are they? Don't ever ask questions like that of a scientist, because the answers will be filled with more questions. It turns out that a 16 ounce Alto Kalimba has more than 2 ounces of variation caused by the wood alone. It is all kiaat wood, but not all kiaat is weighted equal.
