The Goshen Mate Kalimba

The Goshen Mate Kalimba: an 11-Note and an 8-Note.

This is a common idea, a two-headed kalimba for two people who enjoy each other's company. I have seen four different versions of this double kalimba, but the Goshen design is by far the nicest to look at and the nicest to play.

These are truly beautiful kalimbas, made from bottle gourds and paduak wood from Africa. These can be tuned in several different ways - be sure to check out the videos we've posted on YouTube demonstrating the D minor Mate tuning and the A major Mate tuning. Also available are the standard F tuning and the G tuning (for use with Hugh Tracey kalimbas). As the Goshens are a bit tricky to retune, I charge an $8 retuning fee for the non-standard tunings.

When two people play the Mate Kalimba together, they need to listen to each other. They need to pay attention and really tune into one another. You don't need to play many notes, you do need to work together. As such, it is a great modelling tool for intimacy.

This month we are sharing tips of the day for the Goshen Mate Karimba.

You can purchase the Goshen Mate Kalimba at the Kalimba Magic Shop, and this month it is on sale for 20% off when you use the coupon code Goshen20 upon checkout.
