The Magadi Mini-7 (M7)  Kalimba is a great introduction to playing kalimba. The small and big models have the same notes, an octave apart – so you may want to get the small one for your child or grandchild (ages 5 and up), while you play the large one. You can play the same music on both, so this booklet works for both,

This hard copy booklet is small format, 4″ x 6″, so it fits the kalimba’s footprint. It covers: the kalimba’s tuning, the Mini-7 kalimba resources page (which has links to the sound files and other useful info), the octave separation between big and small, kalimba history, plucking the tines, the glissando technique, mindful playing, EZ numbers-based system, graphical kalimba tablature (the system used in the majority of our books), major and minor scale playing, chords and arpeggios, songs, and more.

Songs included in the book: “Old McDonald”, “Dvorak’s ‘Going Home’ Theme”, “Amazing Grace”, “Go Tell it on the Mountain”, “Will the Circle Be Unbroken”, “Swing Low Sweet Chariot”, “Wade in the Water”, “Joy to the World” (Three Dog Night), a number of meditative patterns, and next steps for the growing kalimba player. Most songs are in both EZ Numbers system and in tablature. Several songs have both simple and more complex versions including harmony.

By the time you or your child is done with this booklet, you will be ready to move on to a larger kalimba with more musical possibilities, but the same playing techniques.
